  • Working with authorities for required legal action, if any.
  • Leveraging best-in-class tools and technology to secure customer data and info.
  • Working in tandem with other airlines to share the latest scams/fraud techniques and threat intel affecting our customers.

Types of fraudulent activities & scams.

Following are some common fraudulent activities and scams that target our customers—and simple actions you can take to keep your info, travel plans and identity safe. Keep in mind that fraudsters may use combinations and variations of these schemes. Staying informed, educated and vigilant is your first line of defense.

Websites and Online Travel Agencies

  • Fraudulent third-party websites claiming to be JetBlue often lure customers by paying for higher placement in search engine results and appear as the top results when you search for various combinations of JetBlue, JetBlue Customer Service, JetBlue flights etc.
  • These sites display highly discounted prices to entice customers and, using bait-and-switch techniques, charge customers additional fees that JetBlue doesn’t charge. In the process, they may also steal customer info including your credit card or address to make fraudulent bookings for other people.
  • JetBlue is unable to honor fraudulent bookings and will cancel such itineraries.

What you can do

  • Always book on jetblue.com or the JetBlue app or call us for the best price, customer support and security of your info.
  • Look out for the following if you are in contact with a travel agent:
    • Undisclosed services charges and additional fees tacked on.
    • Multiple credit card transactions from various merchants for the same booking.
    • A lot of background noise coming from call centers often located in a foreign country.
    • Pushy agents forcing you to complete the booking.
    • If you hang up, they might call you back repeatedly
  • Always refer to our formal booking and communication channels

Phone

  • Fraudsters post fake phone numbers for JetBlue online and will have you divulge your personal and financial info when you call them.  Be wary of any phone numbers other than the ones we have listed.
  • The best way to reach JetBlue is via jetblue.com or our primary phone numbers listed below.

Emails (phishing)

  • Unsolicited emails that appear to be from JetBlue.  Scammers will often try to ‘fish’ for your account details or password, or gain access to your TrueBlue (JetBlue’s loyalty program) or Travel Bank accounts without your consent. They might prompt you to click on a hyperlink as part of a phishing scam to add or change email addresses/passwords thereby gaining full control of the account.
  • Compromised accounts can also be used to make fraudulent bookings.
  • Things to look out for:
    • Usually the email or site they link to wants you to disclose or update personal info (credit card numbers, passwords etc. ) via hyperlinks, often with a (false) sense of urgency.
    • These messages are often poorly-worded and contain malicious links and logos disguised to appear legitimate. Clicking on hyperlinks in these messages will often take you to forms which solicit personal info but will also install viruses, malware, ransomware on your devices.
    • Some phishing scams are getting very sophisticated and spotting a phishing email is becoming increasingly difficult. If compromised, your information can be used to many nefarious ends.

What you can do

  • Do not click on any hyperlinks from unsolicited emails.
  • Do not open any attachments from unsolicited emails.
  • Hover your mouse over any link without clicking on it to see a pop-up of where the link goes. If it doesn’t link to jetblue.com, don’t click.
  • Do not respond to unsolicited requests for personal info and never share your login and password with anyone, not even someone claiming to be JetBlue.
    • Keep your login information confidential and secure.
    • Use strong passwords with alphanumeric characters and special characters.
    • Check your account frequently.
  •  Use anti-spam software.
  • Always refer to the official URLs for JetBlue, TrueBlue and your JetBlue Travel Bank:

Text messages

  • Similar to phishing scams via email, scammers will send unsolicited text messages to your phone in an attempt to steal or have you reveal your personal data by clicking on a malicious hyperlink or attachment.
  • JetBlue will never send text messages without your consent.

What you can do
  • If you suspect it is a fake message, do not reply.
  • Do not click on any hyperlinks or open any attachments from unsolicited text messages.
  • Check with your wireless provider for options to filter and block unsolicited text messages and spam.
  • Use a text blocking app.

Social media

Fake social media accounts promise too-good-to-be-true deals such as free tickets for promoting certain posts or clicking on certain links.

What you can do

Always check jetblue.com and our official social media accounts for promotions and deals.

Credit Card

  • If your credit card is lost, stolen or compromised due to fraudulent activity, it may be used for fraudulent purchases including buying JetBlue tickets for other people.

What you can do
  • If you suspect your credit card number is compromised and has been used for fraudulent purchases with JetBlue, immediately call your bank.
  • Confirm that credit card charges from JetBlue show JetBlue as the merchant on your credit card statement.
  • Watch out for anyone who claims a refund timing different from JetBlue’s policy. Credit card refunds for eligible bookings are processed as early as 3-5 days, but can take up to 7-10 days depending on the financial institution.
