JETBLUE BOSTON MARATHON INVITATIONAL ENTRY ESSAY CONTEST
ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open only to JetBlue TrueBlue members who are legal residents of the United States, eighteen (18) years or older at the time of entry. No purchase is necessary to join TrueBlue program. Visit www.jetblue.com/bluerunners for details. Employees of JetBlue Airways Corporation and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate. "Immediate family" includes only spouses, parents, siblings and children. Contest runs from January 7, 2008 to January 31, 2008.
TO ENTER: To enter, email to JetBlue at bluerunners@jetblue.com the following: (1) a list of your running/push-rim wheelchair history and, if it includes races, finishing times, and (2) in 500 words or less, tell us why you believe you should win the invitational entry to run in the Boston Marathon. All submissions must be original unpublished works, written in English and be free of any text formatting (bold, italics, etc.). Entries will not be accepted via regular mail. Entries must be emailed to bluerunners@jetblue.com. You will not receive a confirmation from JetBlue your entry has been received. Each entrant must supply his or her full name, email address, area code and phone number, and complete mailing address. Limit one entry per person. No group submissions will be accepted.
All submissions must be received by JetBlue by January 31, 2008 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. Entries become the property of JetBlue and will not be returned or acknowledged. JetBlue is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, misdirected or incomplete entries. Entrants agree to be bound by these official rules. .
PRIZES: Grand Prizes (5). Average Retail Value: $499 (or, if after March 1, 2008 $549) Per Prize: Five (5) Winners will each receive the following Prize: one (1) “Invitational Entry” into the 112th Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 21, 2008 (Invitational Entry includes invitational entry and includes entry fee of $200 (or $250 depending on postmark date of fee), which will be paid to the Boston Athletic Association) and (1) round-trip non-stop U.S. domestic coach air transportation on JetBlue for one passenger for travel from the city closest to the Winner’s home that is serviced by JetBlue to Boston Logan Airport. Flight component of prize must be used for travel to the 2008 Boston Marathon. In the event that Winner lives in the greater Boston area or elects not to use the airfare component of the prize, air fare component will be forfeited, and JetBlue will provide no compensation or substitution for difference in prize value. Terms and Restrictions for the Invitational Entry: Invitational Entry is provided courtesy of the Boston Athletic Association and exempts the winner from qualifying time standards for entry into the Boston Marathon. However, all other requirements, and agreement terms and conditions as outlined in Invitational Entry form remain in effect. Please see Invitational Entry form for applicable restrictions and requirements. PLEASE NOTE, THE BOSTON MARATHON IS A SERIOUS ATHLETIC ENDEAVOR. AMONG OTHER CONDITIONS, UNLESS YOU ARE AN ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY, YOU MUST BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE 26.2 MILE IN UNDER SIX HOURS NET TIME. Terms and Restrictions for Air Travel: Prize includes roundtrip coach air travel on JetBlue from the city closest to the Winner’s home that is serviced by JetBlue to Boston Logan Airport the closest city JetBlue serves to Boston. In the event that Winner lives in the greater Boston area, or elects not to use the airfare component of the prize, air fare component will be forfeited, and JetBlue will provide no compensation or substitution for difference in prize value. For the sake of clarity, no Boston/Boston air service will be awarded. Flight availability is limited and may not be available on all flights. Blackout dates may apply. Schedules subject to change without notice. Winner is solely responsible for any applicable fees, service charges, surcharges or passenger facility charges, and all insurance, federal, state and local taxes, if any, and any other unspecified expenses associated with acceptance or use of prize, including without limitation all meals, hotel/lodging, other air and ground transportation, expenses incurred by Winner in attending or participating in the Boston Marathon. Space is limited. Prize does not include accommodations, transfers, or any other expenses incurred by winner in attending or participating in the Boston Marathon. JetBlue's Contract of Carriage applies to JetBlue air travel, except that Sponsor is not liable for any expenses incurred as a consequence of a flight cancellation or flight delay and is not eligible for Bill of Rights Compensation. Prize is not redeemable for cash and may not be extended, transferred or substituted, except that JetBlue reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute the listed prize with an item of equal or greater value if it deems necessary. Prize may also not be posted on auction or trade websites. JetBlue will confirm with Boston Athletic Association that Winner uses Prize. Any attempt to transfer Invitational Entry to someone other than Winner will result in automatic disqualification and Prize will be awarded to runner up. JetBlue has no liability or responsibility in the event that the Boston Marathon is cancelled, postponed or delayed. In the event of any such cancellation, flight component of prize will be rendered null and void. All taxes are the responsibility of winner.
PUBLICITY APPEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: By accepting Grand Prize, winner agrees to wear a JetBlue T-shirt during the Boston Marathon and/or other athletic gear or apparel as reasonably requested by JetBlue, and to participate in other JetBlue promotional activities at the time of the Boston Marathon as reasonably requested by JetBlue.
PUBLICITY RELEASE: By submitting an essay, each entrant grants JetBlue the right to use his or her name, voice, photograph, likeness and information provided on entry form, without compensation, including in all publicity and marketing materials (including JetBlue's web site) relating to the essay or to the contest, except where prohibited by law.
LICENSE: By entering the essay contest, each entrant grants to JetBlue a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable license to copy, distribute, display, adapt, publish and make derivative works from the essay, or portions of the essay, in JetBlue's marketing materials, in any media now known or hereafter created, including publication and distribution of the essay, or portions of the essay, on JetBlue's web site, without further compensation.
WARRANTY BY ENTRANT: By submitting an essay, each entrant warrants that the essay is original, was written solely by the entrant, does not violate any copyright laws, and does not plagiarize, libel, defame, disparage, slander or otherwise infringe on or violate the rights of any third parties. Each entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless JetBlue, its officers, directors, employees and affiliated organizations, and their respective officers, directors and employees, from and against any and all claims, demands, damages, costs, liabilities and causes of action of whatsoever nature that are based upon or arise out of any breach by the entrant of these contest rules or the warranties and representations made in this paragraph.
JUDGING: An independent panel of judges comprised of JetBlue marketing professionals will judge the entries and select five (5) entries ("Winners") using the following equally weighted criteria: relevance to theme, running history, public appeal, creativity, originality and writing ability, as demonstrated by spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. In the event of a tie, the essay with the highest score in the "writing ability" category will be declared the winner.
WINNER NOTIFICATION: Winner will be notified via overnight mail on February 8, 2008 or within a reasonable time thereafter. Along with the winner notification, winner may be sent an affidavit of eligibility and release, which, among other provisions releases JetBlue, affiliates, and suppliers from any and all liability related to this contest or use or acceptance of the prize. Winner must execute without making changes and return such requested documents within 14 days of the date on the winner notification letter. Failure of JetBlue to receive a properly executed affidavit of eligibility and release within 14 days will result in disqualification and forfeiture of the prize. Invitational entry form will be mailed to winner within ten (10) days of timely receipt of the affidavit of eligibility and release. If a winner is disqualified or ineligible for any reason, JetBlue will select the next highest scoring entry as the alternate winner. Alternate winners are subject to all eligibility requirements in these rules.
MISCELLANEOUS: JetBlue reserves the right to disqualify any entry for inappropriate content and/or failure to follow contest rules, including entries that JetBlue reasonably believes are not the original work of an entrant. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. JetBlue reserves the right to interpret these rules as needed and its decisions are final. JetBlue reserves the right to correct typographical, clerical or printing errors in any contest materials and to cancel all or any portion of this contest if, for reasons beyond JetBlue's control, the contest is not capable of being run fairly or securely.
