Press releasesJetBlue Premiers LiveTV at Every SeatNew airline is first to offer new entertainment technology New York, NY, 07/14/1999 -- Compared to the one channel of overhead video typically offered to passengers, each LCD screen will deliver between 24 channels to each. Passengers will enjoy the most popular channels of satellite delivered live sports, music, weather, news, children's programs, education and specialty programming from the premier satellite TV service provider DirecTV. LiveTV entertainment is available during the entire flight (with the exception of safety briefings) instead of traditional overhead video, which is only permitted during the flight's 'cruise' period. Programming will be fresh and up-to-the-minute, instead of being refreshed once a month. Two channels will be designated as 'home' channels, displaying services and information such as boarding information, 'moving maps' which track the trip's progress, hotel, rental car, restaurant, tourism and frequent flyer information. Channel and volume controls reside on the armrests and the system uses minimal underseat space and no overhead bin space. DirecTV programming is being delivered in conjunction with LiveTV, a joint venture between Harris Corporation, a leader in satellite communications systems, and Sextant Inflight Systems.
